11Jan23: can’t be bothered…

Minding his business…

…when the hand interrupts his quiet time.

How dare the hand!

Andy takes a nap – or pretends to. That’ll show the hand!

=(^+^)=

It was a dull day today, but there was an email stating a new tub of Greenies dental chicken-flavored kitty treats will be delivered later!

10Jan23: Post zoomies – not a good time for photos!

Andy came running to…

…the ottoman after a zoomies episode.

He was charged up on adrenaline. He began grooming himself.

I couldn’t get good, unblurred photos, so I stuck my hand out to slow Andy down.

It almost worked!

=(^+^)=

My Monday is Tuesday. You know, the first day of the week where anything important happens for the first time that week. It used to be my job on true Mondays; now it’s dialysis on Tuesdays, my current sort of “Monday”.

There’s still snow on the ground, but it looks like this week is one for lots of melting. There is a chance of snow on Wednesday, but the predicted high still is in the melting zone, 37 degrees F/ 2,8 degrees C.

09Jan23: Andy’s not surprised…

Andy watched Doug finally do his Christmas cards yesterday.

“So typical,” Andy thought.

“Just like ‘Kitty Food Time’ – always late!”

=(^+^)=

Now, now, now, Andrew! Maybe sometimes “Kitty Food Time” is on time but you just got at the food place ahead of time. You aren’t getting scrawny because you never get fed, my kitty boy! As for missing the entire Christmas season,  mea culpa! Yes, I barely got cards written and ready to mail yesterday. At my age, it is best to send them eventually lest friends assume I’m no longer above ground and check the obituaries page. LOL! Better they think I’m negligent than dead. Or too cheap to mail cards at US63 cents per.

NB: my cards this year were so heavy and bulky I ended up sticking US$1.26 worth of postage on them, “just in case” and two International rate stamps on those going abroad. I’m not cheap, I’m stupid for not checking at the post office to learn the exact amount of postage I needed. The two-ounce rate is cheaper, though the two-once plus bulky “hand process” rate might be higher. Ugh! I barely did cards this year because sometimes it’s that complicated.

Just in case I didn’t send you a card or you haven’t received one from me yet – I still have to mail the darn things! – here’s last year’s card and greetings:

I liked it better than this year’s card anyway.

08Jan23: Always time for this!

Andy’s a sleepy boy.

He ponders a sleeping position for best results.

Kinda good….

Better by far! > Snore! <

Andy always is available for a nice head rub, no matter how zonked!

=(^+^)=

Thursday, I had new walker delivered. Yesterday, I came back from the monthly Class of 1966 luncheon and found two new walkers had been delivered. I’m in no mood to deal with this nonsense! The only good “news” is the second and third walkers are the cheaper ones. I may donate them or keep one for parts and donate the other one. I think one of the two cheaper ones got ordered (by me) by mistake. The second one doesn’t have an order associated with it. I should check the shipping labels. one of the two that came Friday might have been delivered here by a UPS mistake.

07Jan23: Kitties don’t like coffee, Andrew!

Kitties don’t like coffee, Andrew.

“I still need to sniff it…just in case, Douglas!”

=(^+^)=

I never seem to learn. If I put anything down inside of the Cat Zone, the cat needs to sniff it…just in case.

Way back when, after I came down with Wegner’s granulomatosis, I asked my doctor about having pets. I was on an immuno-suppressant drug and my concern was the germy nature of cats and dogs. With a normal immune system, I knew that wouldn’t be a concern. With a suppressed one…! Anyway, he felt there wouldn’t be a problem as long as I washed my hands often with hot soapy water, I’d be ok.

For the first few weeks after I got Freckles the grey tabby girl, then Louie the ginger tabby, I washed my hands often. Slowly, I just lived with a more normal level of hygiene. I didn’t suffer any problems.

By the time I got Andy and Dougy, kittens suffering diarrhea for the first weeks I had them, I was giving the two “poop baths” because Persians with diarrhea tend to have poopy feathers back there! I briefly washed my hands a lot again because “poop baths” required getting aggressively involved washing poop off little kitten butts.

Slowly, once the diarrhea issue settled down, I went back to reasonably typical and normal hand washing routines…till COVID-19! By then, excessive hand washing was a familiar routine and not so hard to return to.

So…having germy pets ultimately proved to be a benefit for my health. LOL! No, seriously, and I finished the coffee even though Andy sniffed it

06Jan23: groovin’…

There’s one spot on the recliner…

…that’s perfect for groovin’ when you’re a wee kitty!

=(^+^)+=

The December Class of 1966 luncheon had to be cancelled because of illness, but we’re getting together today instead. Finger foods are on the menu. I think I’ll take lemon bars if I don’t eat them all first. LOL! We lost several classmates last year. I think that alone makes these monthly get togethers more necessary. I try to go to all of them, though I frequently don’t make them for one reason or another.

05Jan23: Not now!

Andy, may I have some quality kitty time with you?

“Not now. I have important kitty business to take care of.”

> Lick! Lick! Lick!<

=(^+^)=

I never lose my fascination with the catview of life! Andy teaches me new things all the time. Sometimes I feel like a Jane Goodall trying to learn what makes a kitty boy tick.

04Jan23: Andy waits for the right moment…

Andy…

…knows…

…when…

…to take action!

=(^+^)=

Poor Andy! All I have to do to end his pestering is reach out to him with two hands! He takes that as a threat from me to pick him up. “No! No! No! I don’t want to he hugged and ‘wuvved’ like a baby!” Andy protests being held. He’s never been a lap kitty, though he lets me hold him several minutes at a time sometimes. It used to be he was good for several seconds! Likewise, unlike the late Dougy who was always up for a play session, Andy slowly gets into the play mood. Will Andy ever become happy being held or ready to play on the drop of a pin? Mayb, though I doubt it.

03Jan23: a nice head rub…

Does Andy enjoy a nice head rub?

“Oh yes! Oh yes!” >Purr! Purr! Purr!<

Now my kitty sleeps.

Just when the last snow was melting – even the drift on the south and under my car! – the weather report yesterday was more to come. Six inches/ 15,24 cm to 12 inches/ 30,48 cm more snow predicted, but it didn’t come in blizzard form, a small blessing.

02Jan23: “Strumming his banjo or cleaning his Precious?”

I caught Andy under the recliner cleaning his Precious…

…and he caught me catching him…

…which upset him!

He changed venues.

“No really! I’m strumming my banjo!”

=(^+^)=

I came across someone’s comment with a new euphemism for “cat licking its butt” on Facebook yesterday: “strumming its banjo”. LOL! I am just sick enough to think that is tremendously amusing! Do you have another expression for this cat behavior? I think Andy’s too sensitive for the butt one, but I think the Precious one suits him since he is a very sensitive soul!
