The late Dougy claimed absolute control over the recliner seat.

On a good day, Dougy tolerated Andy resting on the recliner arm.

So, it was a surprise to me that Andy spent most of the morning lounging in what remained Dougy’s spot for years after Dougy died.
I guess Andy is finally moving on, or maybe he’s honoring Dougy.
I’d take moving on. Dougy could be really mean to his brother if Andy touched Dougy’s things….
Fascinating how long it can take
After Dougy died, Andy seemed over it within two weeks, but then I noticed how he always stared at the door to the guest bedroom, Dougy’s domain.
The Internet is back up for now. The ice storm took us down since yesterday afternoon. Just got it back.
Fortunately here, it’s just nasty cold without additional snow.
It is funny how particular spots will go unused long after when the previous spot holder has passed on. I have seen that here with our crew. Eventually, once cat will break the ice and use the spot. There may be contention for it for a while, but someone eventually emerges the victor, and becomes the reigning favored real estate holder.
It is a curious thing. I suppose the scent of the deceased one lingers for a long time, deterring potential usurpers, who respect that scent till it fades away.
It seems that Mr Andy has just put an end to the official mourning period.
That must be it.
I think the chair has been unclaimed for long enough Andy feels it’s OK now, You know cats see into the other world. I hear a conversation “It’s a great chair. It’s going to waste. Can I have a turn now?” OK, yeah, I guess it’s about time brother”
It wouldn’t be like Dougy to share that part of the chair, but I like your scenario!
What a contrast in sizes!
Dougy was a bit more than 10 pounds/ 4,5 kilos, and Andy, then was a bit lighter. Dougy was the bigger kitty of the two brothers in size as well
Awww, I do think cats feel things just as we do. Your brothers were very civilized. Our “barbarians” as the hubs calls them, will smack each other, and their sisters, out of favored spots.
Yes, IF saw lots of kitty smacking over the years, and they sometimes had serious fights I had to intervene in. Mostly, though, they got along.
Perhaps Andy doesn’t remember Dougy? Animals seem to live only in the moment. Happy Monday, Doug!
I think he may have just accepted the fact that Dougy isn’t going to come out of the guest bedroom and smack him around if he takes the prime spot on the recliner.
That makes sense. Smack him around… 😂🤭
Yeah!
The official mourning period must have finally passed.
I think that may be the case.
Cats always a new learning for us, missing Dougy… Should be. A few days ago I noticed something dear Doug, there is a small woolen piece of fabric in the home and almost all cats love this piece of fabric, really being crazy with it. But a few days ago I noticed that Cesur first going to smell our the only lady Tomurcuk and then comes back to the piece of fabric… he is crazy with doing this… I thougt of this could it be a kind of fantasy of a cat…? It was interesting. Anyway, Thank you, I love all your photographs, we miss too lovely Dougy, Love and Hugs to you both, nia
Thank you, Nia! Andy sometimes will stare at the south bedroom door. Dougy used to come out of that room through that door and Andy had to make sure he wasn’t on anything Dougy claimed as his!
