Post 601: “A Really Cool Box”

A really cool box arrived by UPS yesterday, full of new dinnerware. It took nanoseconds for Andy to claim the box as “his”, well before I finished opening it! You know cats…!

[NOTE TO UPS: Since you delivered this to my neighbor’s house, perhaps 100 feet away, an 81-year-old man finished delivering this very heavy box to me. Catch that: an 81-year-old man! I was home and my front door was open.]

Post 584: Just watching…that’s all!

Andy is a quiet little guy. Where Dougy would make pathetic mewing sounds to try to get me to play, Andy just comes up from behind, taps me on the arm, then just sits there.

“What’s up, boy?! What do you want, Andy? Food? Play? To look out the front door? What!? What!? What!?”

Just there...! Why?

Just there…! Why?

Yes, he’ll just sit there. Watching, waiting, quietly expecting something from me, but what? “Speak up, Andy! Lead me to what you want!…!”

Maybe he just admires me. Naw! He wants something. Something...!

Maybe he just admires me. Naw! He wants something. Something…!

Some days, it just creeps me out! Today, though, I figured out he wanted to play with the wand toy, so we had a nice play session until Dougy galumped onto the scene and took over. Dougy is that way: You never wonder for long what he’s about.

Post 549: the hunting blind

I get what I get, not what I plan when I decide to do a photo story about the boys. I thought — and still think — it’d be cute to get photos of Andy in his new box playing. We played earlier, and he gave a wonderful performance you would have enjoyed…if I got it saved on my camera!

Of course, once I got my camera, the mood changed, Andy stopped being cute, and Dougy showed up to take over. He hadn’t played out for the morning yet, and here was a wonderful opportunity.

Andy's in the picture...if you look closely!

Andy’s in the picture…if you look closely! (Hint: those are his paws under the box flap, about halfway in….)

I try to tyease Andy out for a photo shoot showing how Andy not only took over the new box, he made it into the perfect hunting blind.

I try to tease Andy out for a photo shoot showing how he not only took over the new box, he made it into the perfect hunting blind. (See Andy yet? One paw is about to grab the toy….)

Too much temptation for Dougy! He came at a full gallop, and Andy retreated from the game!

I wrap the toy...Aw! Dougy just wants to play, and Andy can play if he wants to!

I wrap the toy…Aw! Dougy just wants to play, but Andy can play if he wants to.

Maybe I won't play if Dougy's going to be a toy hog.

What the hey!? Dougy still wants to play, so I toss the wand toy bug his way.

I give Andy another chance to join the play, but Dougy's just too close and ready to go as far as Andy's concerned.

Woohoo!

Woo hoo! Andy just got up and ran away. Take my word for it.

This game is going nowhere fast!

This game is going nowhere fast. What started out to be fun lost its appeal as soon as Andy left. Poor Dougy! No one will play with him.

Don’t feel bad for Dougy. After I put the camera away, we went back to playing with the wand toy. Andy joined in, but played from the seat of my computer chair, a favorite of both boys because they like to catch the toy under and over the armrest!

=(^+^)=

Dougy decided to check out my progress (i.e. make sure I didn’t libel him). Apparently I passed his stringent test because he didn’t hit [Ctrl] [Alt] [Delete].

Post 501: Mayhem ensued ~ How we observed Black Cat Appreciation Day!

Whew! Then you turn the inmates loose, you shouldn’t be surprised that things go downhill fast! So it goes.

Here’s how we observed Black Cat Appreciation Day at our house. It isn’t pretty…!

Post 493: the distraction

Andy’s the star of this little vignette, this slice of life, this true life mini-adventure…! 🙂

After several days, both boys now have tried out this new toy, but Andy falls for a distraction just as he’s starting to get into its play potential.

Post 491: tub cat

Dougy is a funny cat.

All I have to do to get Dougy to hop into his favorite cat fort feature, the salmon-colored tub, is to walk into the kitchen.

He assumes we are about to play, and he plans on playing from the comfort of his tub.

He waits...

He waits…

Maybe I just wanted to wash the dishes. Or start dinner. Or check for mail.

And waits...

And waits…

There’ll he be! In his tub, posed in this semi-upright position and poised to pounce, if I get the hint!

And waits...!

And waits…!

He is my tub cat! Poor kitty.

I should get off the dang computer and bond with my kitties in playtime. You know what they say: Idle paws are the devil’s workshop.

Post 478: Andy’s fine play!

Today is Andy’s day to have fun with one of the boys’ favorite toys.

Post 476: what happened before the camera battery crashed

Both Andy and Dougy are wound up today, wanting to play, play, play…!

Ok, I decided, we’ll play, but I’ll make a video at the same time since I rarely get them both playing together with the same toy.

(Dougy’s telling me to hurry up, incidentally, because he still wants to play! He’s a whiner, so I will pay attention or endure his fuss. Now, he’s adding some “soft claws” to his appeal. Next, full claws: Dougy doesn’t play around…when it comes to play!)

Gotta go now. Dougy’s eyes are glowing!

Post 475: “We wait…!”

Andy and Dougy have their priorities. Sorry, but this post interferes with kitty play time some days, and the boys don’t get it.

Andy waits.

Andy waits.

Andy watches and watches. Something, something might just happen, and he wants to be ready!

Dougy waits.

Dougy waits.

Dougy choses the “whiney kitten” mode, sighing, pacing, positioning himself in play zones in broad hints about what he wants and expects from me…NOW!

I better close this early, and get back to my primary purpose in life, amusing my cats! See ya!

Post 474: Dougy plays alone

I played with Andy for a time before Dougy revealed himself with a dramatic pounce. Andy decided it was a time for treats, and left Dougy to play alone. Poor Dougy! Everyone knows it’s more fun to play with your best buddy than to play alone!
