Post 744: Caturday is for wand toys…!

Nothing piques the boys’ interest like a wand toy. Dougy, in fact, knows where I store them –the little end table Andy likes to sleep on…– and he’s been puzzling out how to open the door since the first day he saw me pull a BirBug wand toy out of it. No luck so far!

Yes, Andy! It's a wand toy!

Andy comes in closer and I move the wand toy into better light.

Dougy wants some of this wand toy action, too, though Doug (the human one) all ready played wand toy with him earlier. Dougy is all about a good time!

I guess Dougy had enough wand toy for the moment because he decides to bird watch out the back window, leaving all the wand toy fun for his brother. Andy doesn't know what to make of this development. Dougy usually hogs the toys!

“Hunh…?!”
Andy tries to process this wonderful moment. The wand toy is all his!

Now that Dougy's not hogging the wand toy, Andy doesn't want to play anymore. What's the point?

Post 728: It’s playtime again!

Andy rests after a long day of play. Notice he claimed a magazine that fell on the floor. It's "his"!

Andy reminds Dougy that they have a game of... well, whatever that strange game they play with the snake wand toy is. He meows an insult in Cattinese. At least it sounded like an insult!

"Hark!" Is that brother of mine dissing me?" Dougy is alert to the game.

Dougy joined Andy on the chase shortly after, and they had a good time!

Post 727: race horse…

I don’t know what got into Andy this morning, but he was racing around the apartment like a 10 pound Secretariat.

He hopped. He pounced. He climbed. He teased his brother, Dougy. Andy was possessed!

Ain't Andy a darlin'...?! He even took time out to rest a little between races.

Dougy was more circumspect. Not very Dougy like, but even Dougy takes a break from play sometimes!

It was nice of DOugy to let Andy have play time without Dougy interrupting and taking over.

It always heartens me to see Andy have fun because he is such a serious little guy.

Now, time to catch the little rascal to give him his blood pressure medicine, but I don’t think the odds are good for capture today.

Post 714: Dougy spots a spider…

Dougy sat down to clean up after breakfast. Then he spotted the spider!

He lost track of the spider when it crawled behind the box.
Too bad. I was rooting for a quick and brutal end to Ms. Spider, “Death by Savage Teeth from Hell and Random Pattycakes”.

No pussyfooting around, things are back to normal and the boys played their little cat game with the obscure rules that ends in a chase they both enjoy. Now, it’s time for a little mid-day cat nap!

Post 673: cat in the box surprise…

The other day, I posted photos of Andy playing in a tight, flat box. Yeah, I wanted to toss it. No, Andy had other plans! Since I spoil my boys totally, I saved the ugly box.

All clear! No Dougy in sight!

All clear! No Dougy in sight! (Andy in the flat box the other day….)

Having saved the ugly box, I was delighted that Andy didn’t show any more interest in it.

Then, yesterday, I heard a rustle behind me while I worked on my blog. I turned around and saw this:

Definitely a cat tail! And the cat in the box was playiong that game the boys play with that wand toy, the one with strange rules I can't discern that always ends up in them chasing each other all over the house, leaving the wand toy where the game started.

Definitely a cat tail! And the cat in the box was playing that game Andy and Dougy play with that wand toy, the game with strange rules I can’t discern.

It seemed like Andy was challenging Dougy to a game of “whatever-the-hell-that-game-is-that-starts-with-a-cat-in-a-box-guarding-the-wand-toy-with-multi-colors-that-has-strange-rules-and-that-ends-in-a-chase”. This was choice! I leaned down to get a better photo of Andy:

When I looked at the photo on my camera, the shaky image still showed me something I didn't expect.

So I took another photo, hoping to have better clarity.

Trust me! Though I never got a shot that you can see the cat in the box as clearly as I could, it turned out to be Dougy! Yes, the bigger of the two brothers managed to squeeze into a spot his smaller brother Andy barely fit the other day!

This is how the boys get to keep their boxes. I think they use telepathic powers to pick up my intentions to toss a nasty-looking box I haven’t seen they playing on, then one or the other cat plays on it long enough to save it from the trash. I don’t put anything beyond my kitties!

The boys had their game of “what’s-it”, then took a nap. Of course!

Post 672: lazy morning ritual

I’m never alone.

As much as they love their new toy, there are priorities that trump play: nap time, for example! They get me up at god-awful-o’clock, eat, then take a long nap.

Here’s a video version of the Dougy part of it…:

Post 671: baiting with BirBug

If you want to catch a cat, you have to use the right bait. But first you have to catch their attention!

Andy is predictable. Sleeping, as usual, on top of the blue carrier!

Dougy, on the other hand, is ready to go! [Hint! Hint!] Here, he's hiding in that box by the wastepaper basket across from my computer table. "Nearby", if you didn't follow the description.

"Now what?!" Andy got the prize, but it wasn't doing anything. Hunh!?

Not to worry. I saw Andy’s dilemma and made sure he got some good action for his efforts! Dougy came over and joined in the play. We all had a good time.

Post 665: “Does it make my butt look big?”

Dougy loves his new Neko BirBug toy. Loves! Loves! Loves! So much so it lost a little feather off the back after lots of rough play. (Andy loves it, too…if Dougy lets him play with it. Sad business, that!)

"My ottoman, my BirBug, et moi! Can life be any better?"

“My ottoman, my BirBug, et moi! Can life be any better?”

"As good as it gets and it needn't get any better! Well, maybe a fresh bag of salmon-flavored Greenies would completye my happiness!"

After the short distraction, Dougy killed BirBug a hunderd ways! {Grrrr!]

Then, Dougy ran off to take a serious nap. That’s what cats do.

Post 648: Andy and Dougy play a game of their invention…

Andy slipped into the box, dragging the multi-color ribbon wand toy behind him. This toy, a favorite of the boys, is part of their self-play. I can’t get them to play with it, but they have their own game, something like “keep away” they devised using the toy.

Andy guards the toy. He doesn't want Dougy to get it!

Silly kitty! You are all the way inside the box, but the toy is mostly outside! Dougy surely will notice.

Dougy can't budge Andy from the front, so he waits by the hole on the side. Andy will try to scare him away, but Dougy will prevail!

Dougy can’t budge Andy out the front opening of the box, so he waits by the hole on the side. Andy tries to scare him away, but Dougy prevails!

Dougy scared Andy out of the box, so he checked it out. Nothing there. Dougy leaves the box...and still forgets about the toy!

Dougy shoos Andy out of the box, yet he still must verify it is empty. Yep! No kitty there! Dougy leaves the box…and the toy! Game’s over. Hunh?! I guess it makes sense to the kitties….

The toy will show up somewhere else before the morning’s over. In fact, it will “wander” all over the house. I rarely see a cat attached to it, but the cats move it. Only they know the rules and strategies of their homespun game!
