Post 1607: Doug plays hard to get…

Dougy’s been pestering me to play “wand toy” with him, so I tried to play along. Now he is playing hard to get: “You didn’t stop everything and play right now, so I’m ignoring you!”

Aw, Dougy! Andy’s incredulous! (and too close to the camera…)

Looking cute, but not getting into play that much yet.

“Dougley, Dougley, Dougley!” Andy can’t believe Dougy isn’t in the mood to play. I mean, it was his idea in the first place, right?!

Maybe he’ll play some more… or not.

Nope! Dougy headed over to the cat tree to enjoy the scene out the window.

“Yer missing out on some hot fun, Dougy!” Andy sticks around to play “wand toy”!

Poor Dougy! While Andy took a long nap, Dougy stopped by the recliner several times to get “scritches” from Doug (the human) and to knead Doug’s arm, Dougy’s current happy place. (Ouch!) He took a nap after a short time on the cat tree. He needed it.

Post 1583: same old, same old…

Dougy and I were in intense feather toy play when I accidentally flopped the bird into the overhead fan light cover, causing a loud “ping”.

The “ping” sound was very, very, very interesting to Dougy, so he hopped up on the recliner to try to catch whatever made that sound!

I tried to get him reinterested in the feather toy, but Dougy insisted there was something big and worth a follow up behind that “ping”!

Andy, on the other hand, made sure his “precious” was cleaned and kitty-sanitized for the next use.

Just the same old, same old at the kitty boy place….

Post 1582: so Dougy will play with other toys…

Kool Kitty!

Dougy pretends nothing’s happening, but the lower right hand photo betrays his “indifference”! He knows, yes, he knows!

Woo hoo! the Birbug toy plops by Dougy and he pounces. The game is on.

Post 1580: expensive toys…meh!

The early enthusiasm lasts a short time.

Put some effort into it, kitties. Any effort!

This toy is toast.

This toy amused Andy for a short time and Dougy just didn’t get it!

Much like the food bag strip that’s amused the kitty boys for a long time now, Andy found a toy he really, really, really likes ~ a folded piece of copy paper!

Post 964: Mirror, mirror on the wall…what the heck are the boys up to now?

I can see into the kitchen by looking at a wall mirror hanging behind the boys’ water fountain. It got a bit too quiet — people with kids or pets know the quiet I mean — and I instinctively looked in the mirror. Yep, Dougy was bullying his brother! Woof! Woof!

There's Dougy. I think he's being a good boy... or is he!?

or is he!?

So I shift my focus. I think that's Andy there. Yeah, that sort of fuzzy gray splotch toward the back...!

So I shift my focus. I think that’s Andy there. Look just to the left of the third drawer of the little storage drawers.
Yeah, that sort of fuzzy gray splotch is Andrew…!

Being mewan to your brother makes you thirsty, so Dougy gets a drink. Andy sits it out in back.

Dougy ran off to the guest bedroom, so Andy was safe to come out again. So, it was up on tyop of my computer to look out the back window. Birds should be coming in just about now!

Post 918: “Go to bed, kitties! Go to bed…!!!”

I’ve written before about the wand toy game Andy and Dougy invented. The most noticeable part of the game is how the cat inviting the brother to play meows piteously from some distant place till his brother comes running.

From that point, when both are at the wand toy, the boys begin to chase each other. The wand toy doesn’t seem to serve any specific purpose other than to announce the game has begun.

Andy prepares for the game. The wand toy is stretched out in front of him.

Though it seems to be a “keep-away” game, the wand toy never  gets taken. All I know is it will be in a different place each time I see it. One or the other cat moves it at some point during the game, though I’ve rarely seen this happen.

A pitiful yowling alerts Dougy to the starty of the game....! This time it's during the day, but last night it was after I went to bed.

This time it’s during the day, but last night it was after I went to bed.

Yes, last night the game took place while I tried to sleep! I guess I didn’t wear the boys down enough before I went to bed.

Andsy needs a drink. Dougy must be sleeping because he isn't running to join the game...!

Of course, he and Andy were up last night playing, so, of course, he is a bit worn out this morning!

Dang cats!

Post 851: Andy doesn’t need any $30 toy to have a good time…!

Andy found a new plaything yesterday when he checked the wastepaper basket by my computer: an empty copier paper package. Yes, he tried to climb inside, and managed to get half of himself in before he found another use for it.a4

When I saw Andy chewing the packaging, I took it away from him of course. He was not amused.

Post 850: in answer to some questions…

Andy makes his case: MINE! Get out!

A couple posts back, a photo of Dougy showed the cover of a book featuring Shorty and Kodi with their human. I couldn’t locate a link to attach with the photo or to add to a comment at the time, but have since figured out where I was messing up: they appear in a seriers of videos on Sho Ko channel on You Tube.

While you’re there, you may want to view a few of these videos. They are a hoot!

The book itself is available various places, according to their Facebook page. The links aren’t active, but you can use the information to locate particulars on Amazon.

The book is purported to be the work of Robert Moore, but we all know Shorty and Kodi actually wrote it….!

Post 802: Come on, boys! Let’s play!

Both Andy and Dougy seemed ready to play this morning, so I brought out a favorite Neko toy, one that is supposed to suggest a centipede.

Andy contemplates the centipede...

Dougy is bored....so soon??

“Et tu, Andy?”

Good thing this isn't a video!

Good thing this isn’t a video! “Z-z-z-z-z-z…”

Andy's ready to take off. No fun here!

Andy’s ready to take off. No fun here!

You never know. I can’t believe the boys both weren’t in the mood to play. Maybe they wanted a different toy. Maybe they were up all night and just wanted to sleep. Maybe they both were upset with me because who knows what? It isn’t always fun and games with kitty cats!

Post 766: Ready for Freddy…!

We have an expression in my family: Ready for Freddy. No profound meaning, just that the speaker is ready to get on the road or eager to start doing something.

Today, the kitty boys were ready for Freddy to play with their cat toys, and we had a solid hour of kitty fun before they wandered off to take cat naps — which I hope are for the rest of the day!

Andy is ready for Freddy!

Andy is ready for Freddy!

Odd how that expression popped up this morning. I can’t remember the last time anyone in the family said it. It just fits the excitement Andy and Dougy showed to get going with their Neko toy play time!

Dougy always is up for play, but Andy went through a period before his heart murmur and high blood pressure were discovered where he was listless and not at all kittenish or playful. Seeing him tear through the living room to capture the toy before Dougy does is proof the medicine does its job!

Long live the exciting new toy!

The boys’ current favorite toy is this Neko centipede.

When both play, the boys take turns wearing themselves out, then resting while the other brother takes over the play. That’s how our play session managed to last the hour! With just one cat playing, a play session might last 10 minutes before the kitty poops out.

You may not believe it, but Andy and Dougy sometimes have spats where one or the other ends up whimpering and running away with his tail between his legs! With both playing, the Neko toy takes all the tooth and claw action, and we all like that best of all!
