Post 1292: I finally caught Andy to give him medicine…

Yesterday, Andy was especially cagey avoiding capture for his medicine. Then, when he did get captured, he resisted. I warned him about what was to come!

=(^+^)=

“Where’s that kitty??” I just didn’t know. (As far as Andy was concerned, at least, and you know from yesterday he thinks he’s hiding under the bed even though his tail’s hanging out in plain sight!)

Hee! Hee! Now all I have to do is wait till he gets tired watching me, then the cat is mine!

I caught him, but Andy put up a lot of resistance. “I’ll have to make you into a kitty burrito if you don’t settle down, Andy. Be a good boy!

img_20170201_062604

Yes. Kitty burrito time for Andy! He was not happy, but he got his medicine…and his “good boy” treat, though he knew and I knew he hadn’t been a good boy!

Post 1291: “Where’s Andy?”

Time to give Andy his medicine, but he’s nowhere to be seen….

=(^+^)=

Hey! There’s Dougy! Maybe he knows!

“Hey Dougy! Have you seen Andy?”

img_20170201_033958

Hee! Hee! Never mind! There he is!

By coincidence, I didn’t turn my laptop off yesterday after I showed a visitor the video I posted in yesterday’s post. (I thought I had since I clicked on “shut down”….) The next video up was this one:

LOL! Yes, his amazing tail, once more, betrayed his hiding spot. Did I catch him? Ahem! Well, the plot thickens. He managed to escape. He’s out there somewhere, though. I shall catch him. He will get his daily dose of medicine. Mwahahahahaha!

Post 727: race horse…

I don’t know what got into Andy this morning, but he was racing around the apartment like a 10 pound Secretariat.

He hopped. He pounced. He climbed. He teased his brother, Dougy. Andy was possessed!

Ain't Andy a darlin'...?! He even took time out to rest a little between races.

Ain’t Andy a darlin’…?! He even took time out to rest a little between races.

Dougy was more circumspect. Not very Dougy like, but even Dougy takes a break from play sometimes!

It was nice of DOugy to let Andy have play time without Dougy interrupting and taking over.

It was nice of Dougy to let Andy have play time without Dougy interrupting and taking over.

It always heartens me to see Andy have fun because he is such a serious little guy.

Now, time to catch the little rascal to give him his blood pressure medicine, but I don’t think the odds are good for capture today.

Post 594: So we get through the morning somehow…!

Andy and Dougy generally pop around at the same time for breakfast. Today, Dougy didn’t come around when Andy did, and Andy made sure to eat all the wet cat food I prepared for both kitties. Hey! It’s cold outside and a kitty needs to lay down some fat, especially a skinny kitty like Andy!

Oh well. After I fed Andy, I washed dishes. Andy parked himself by the front door. When I finished the dishes, I walked toward the dining room, hoping not to alarm Andy when I walked by.

You see, I know if I take my cane and point it at Andy, he won’t bolt, but if I just walk up to him and reach, he does. My cane was by a chair beyond the door. I picked up my cane, pointed it at Andy, and I had me a cat to dose with medicine!

Andy knows he's about to get medicated...! In the background, the plate with what's left of the food Andy ate that was meant for both Andy and Dougy....

Poor kitty! He was a good boy, though, and we got through the process without me having to wrap him in the towel to restrain him a bit. Yeah, I told him he was a good boy, “scritched” his ears, and rubbed his nose after he got his medicine down. Then I put out his kitty treats. He didn’t stop to eat any, though. Why would he? He’d just eaten two servings of wet food minutes before! He ran into my bedroom instead, and hid under the bed.

Poor Dougy! Andy ate all of the wet food before Dougy came out of the guest bedroom to join us for the day!

Oh, before you leave me naughty notes about starving poor “Chubby-butt”, erm, Dougy, let me reassure you I opened another can of trout/salmon wet food, and made sure Dougy got his breakfast, too! As a practical matter — there is dry food out if the boys want it — I had to because Dougy needs a probiotic to help him with an autoimmune issue. I put the probiotic in the boys’ wet food, all of which Andy ate earlier, eh?!

It wasn’t the smoothest start to the day, but everyone is cool now. The boys wandered off to take post-breakfast naps. I’m thinking about stopping by the Crazy Lady Bakery to buy some breakfast rolls to have with my coffee. Then, the rest of the day will happen however it unfolds. We plan to do as little as possible today!

Post 559: apparition

I’ve waited all morning for a good time to catch Andy so I can give him his medicine. He, unfortunately, has my number, so stays one step ahead of “The Man”!

After staying away from me most of the morning, though, he hopped on top of my computer to see what was happening outside in the fir tree. I had a situation: should I catch him or take photos of him for my blog? Obviously, I chose the photos!

Andy forgets for a moment he is a wanted kitty. What's happening in the fir tree out the back window? Andy wants to know!

He becomes aware of me. His horns reveal themselves, the sign of things to come.

Full horn display! Andy is alert and ready to respond to any nonsense copming his way. He will avoid medicine today!

Andy hopped off the computer. He’s on the chair he likes to sleep on by the table. If I can sneak up on him — not likely! — I can give him his medicine shortly! Who will win today? Cat? Or Man? Well, the wee rascal just walked over to me to get his face rubbed. The game score today stands at Andy with 5 points and me with 0.

=(^+^)=

UPDATE: At 12:10, the wary Andy succumbed to his hubris, was found sleeping on the computer desk shelf, was snatched up, was massaged and reassured he is a good boy, then was given his blood pressure medicine. After further reassurances and more shoulder massage, he was let down to his kitty treats.

Post 552: catch up day

Yesterday was a horror. Today is a day of catching up with whatever was set aside to get through yesterday. So, I cleaned the boys’ fountain; washed a week’s worth of my dirty clothes; cleaned up yesterday’s dirty pots, pans, and dishes; collected the trash; cleaned out and refilled the boys’ litter boxes; tossed the trash in time for it to be picked up (earlier than usual, so I barely caught them this week! whew!); finally pried Andy off of the cat tree so I could give him his medicine; fed the boys, adding the Lysine to their wet food to help build up their immune systems. All that.

On the other hand, Andy watched birds, ate, took his medicine (under protest and after a long resistance to the capture), and took a nap.

dougy

Dougy pretty much did the same things as Andy, except for the medicine, then he hopped up on the mini-stereo and watched me for a few minutes. I was fascinating.

Now, I think I’ll finish washing my clothes, put them in the dryer, go into the front room, put my feet up on the ottoman Dougy claims as his own, and let him have a hissy because I don’t move my feet when he stops by. Sometimes the human has to put his foot down to cat tyranny. Or up, as the case might dictate! Dougy will be pissy about it, so I’ll move my feet enough so he can share the ottoman with me.

Later, we’ll play wand toy games, the boys and I. We’ll have fun, then take a nap. Guaranteed!

Post 538: a slow Caturday morning…

Nobody’s moving much or very fast this morning. In fact, there is a distinct sense of a nap coming on.

Andy didn’t get his medicine until a bit after 9:00 AM. Not because he hid from me, but because I just wasn’t moving very fast. Then, when I realized I’d forgotten to take care of Andy’s medicine, I located him by the front door, lazing. He looked up at me, I reached down and picked him up. No drama, no resistance, even when I wrapped him in the towel. Oh, he put up token resistance when I put the syringe of medicine up to his lips, but even that was a lazy resistance, just enough to assert his disagreement with the act of being dosed.

He got his praise and treats, then went under the computer desk to that spot he likes to go when he wants to avoid capture, can see but not been seen easily.

Andy's hidey-hole under the computer desk.

Dougy didn’t have much energy going either today, this slow Caturday morning. Oh, he tried to put on a show by scratching on the settee he knows he’s not supposed to rip apart but does, but it was just enough to show he’d been by, a show for Andy’s sake a few feet away under the computer desk.

Dougy looked back toward Andy to make sure Andy saw the show at the settee.

Dougy looked back toward Andy to make sure Andy saw the show at the settee.

But it turned out Dougy put on a show for a kitty that wouldn’t let himself be worried by some silly territorial business today. Dougy ran off to take a nap in the bathroom.

I think Andy moved a little bit. Mmmm. That tail switched, right?!

I think Andy moved a bit. Mmmm. That tail switched, right?! Yes? No?

A slow Caturday morning…. Maybe I’ll take a nap, too.

Post 528: naughty cats

I know I put a happy face on the boys’ behavior, but they can be little poops when they want to be.

Dougy is a terrible furniture scratcher, though I have several scratching posts stationed throughout the apartment, including next to the furniture he likes to assault.

work on being cute

Yeah. “Cute”, Dougy. “Cute”!

But what about Andy? Sweet, kitten-faced Andy? Andy, named after the Apostle Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland? The sick little kittycat?

Well, for a cat with a heart murmur and high blood pressure that’s treated with daily doses of medicine, he can run and hide like hell. Bad boy! To think my after-medicating ritual is to whisper “What a good boy!” over and over in his ear while I gently massage his shoulders! Well, there were no kitty treats dispensed yesterday, let me tell you!

What of Andy?

“But I don’t want to take my medicine…!”

All week, each time I finally caught him got later and later. He even managed to go all day yesterday without his medicine. Come to think of it, it’s 7:23, I don’t know where the little rascal is, and he still hasn’t had his medicine.

xxxxxxxxx =(>+<)= xxxxxxxxx

UPDATE: Andy got his dose of medicine at approximately 7:50 AM. He fell for the old “Want to play with wand toys, boys?” strategy. He took it like a big boy, so I stroked his ears, told him he was a good boy, and massaged his shoulders. He got kitty treats today!

Post 520: a little morning drama

Andy trusted me too much, too long, and I easily snatched him right by the computer desk, just before he sneaked into his hidey hole. It took little effort today to give him his medicine, and he was a very good boy about it. Maybe the tuna flavor of the new batch of medicine made the difference!

That said, he still ran off to hide under the computer desk at the first chance after I gave him his medicine.

Andy hurried away from the scene. Medicated, he no longer wanted anything to do with weggieboy! Dougy hopped up[ on the settee for a better view.

Dougy wanted to get in on the excitement, you bet! He hopped up on the settee for a better view.

Andy prepares to hide, and Dougy watches for Andy’s next move.

Dougy took up watch at the back door. Andy went into seclusion, under the computer desk. Of course! That's his usual hidey hole!

What? Dougy looked at the camera long enough for me to take a soft-focus glamour shot! What a handsome boy he is! (Andy is,too, but that photo didn’t turn out.)

"Glamour Puss"

“Glamour Puss”

I did call this a “little morning drama”, right? What did you expect? A kitty replay of WAR AND PEACE? 😉

Post 509: “You don’t have my permission…!”

Whew! Dougy does not like his photo taken! That makes him a true member of my family. I did, however sneak one of him at the back door, resting on the little red chair, a favorite of both boys.

"What!? I didn't say you could do that!"

“What!? I didn’t say you could do that!”

I pushed his button, but don’t think Dougy doesn’t know how to push one or two of mine back…!

“Nyah! Nyah!”

You wee fart! You know you aren’t supposed to use the furniture as a scratching post! I’m scandalized, Dougy, scandalized!

I got another shot of you, Dougy! And I’m bigger than you, too!

🙂 > < 🙁

On a more positive note, Andy and I had an uneventful time this morning. Continuing the no-scruffing rule, I had no problem picking Andy up and medicating him in short order. A few minutes later, when I was making my breakfast, we exchanged blinky-eyes with each other till our eyelids hurt.

Oh, yeah, and I rubbed his ears, scratched his chin, stroked his head and ran his fine tail through my hand, saying those words he likes to hear, “What a purrrdy tail, Andy! Purrrrdy! You’re the kitty with the purrrdy tail!” And he is.
