Post 705: Tigger the cat dies at age 13 of heart disease.

Tigger was one of the first two or three Japanese video cats I fell in love with. A beautiful cat with light green eyes, he was a comedian, a good sport. tigger

I’ve attached a memorial video his owner posted. Though it is long, it is beautifully realized, a loving tribute to a beloved pet. Tigger was a lucky kitty to be cared for and loved so much!

RIP, Tigger. I loved you, too.

Post 704: “sheepies” need grass…!

Even cats need fiber in their diets, and supplemental grass makes for happy felines. They also get trace minerals and vitamins from grass, and [hack~hack] it helps with hairballs.

It is easy to grow, so I try to keep a bit on hand for the boys. Unfortunately, it grows fast, dies out fast, and requires frequent replanting to assure a regular supply, but seeds planted today can be ready in three, four days for nibbles.

Andy especially likes his greens!

It isn’t necessary to grow a lot at one time, though I have tried growing it in a large enough container that a large cat (Louie the ginger cat, at 24 pounds, 10.82 kg) could lounge in it without having to go outside or wait for the warmer seasons when grass flourishes outside.

That was too alien for the boys, though. Bat the grass with one’s paws. Eat the grass. Sniff the grass. But lie in the grass! They are “city sheepies”! What do they know about such things?

It’s Tax Time! Just Not For Them!

I managed to get money back on my taxes this year. How about you? On the other hand, some taxpayers got away without paying a cent and still got money back. Hunh?!

Post 703: the “sheepies” are shorn…

Andy and Dougy had a morning at the kitty spa yesterday, and came back smelling and looking pretty nice!

Of course, once I released them at home, their first job (after running away from me) was to reclaim their identities by applying lots of cat spit all over and rubbing against things to get their kitty stink going again. So cute!

And I caught them sniffing each other’s butts: “Is that you, brother?!” “Yes, I think so, though I don’t recognize my smell.”

Andy's lookin' good!

Yes, the boys’ groomers report they were good boys again! That’s all I ask.

Post 702: The boys have to settle something…!

(Sorry for the photo quality. These were taken in near dark. It’s particularly noticeable in Andy’s photos because, of course, he moved around a bit while the camera took the image. Dougy was still because Andy had him pinned down and he didn’t want to expose himself. Never mind, though, the boys were playing again a short time later!)

Post 701: “Are you a bad boy?” ~ the black and white truth

I found Andy mouthing and licking the television channel reference. How did he figure out where I kept it?!

Post 700: a good reason to keep cats…

I talk with my financial adviser next week, and need to have some of my financial ducks lined up in a neater row than they usually are.

One of those ducks is my tax return for last year. Knowing my tax liability will help set how much money I draw out of my retirement account each month this year. If I owe money in, of course, I may want to have more withdrawn in taxes before the money’s transferred to my banking account. If I get money back, well – woohoo! – maybe I can splurge on a new cat toy or something for myself.

So, I put all my tax papers in a manila envelope, then couldn’t find it. Never mind. Andy found it in an instant, and promptly claimed it for himself!

"What's this?!"

“What’s this?!”

"MINE!"

“MINE!”

Yes, yet another good reason to keep cats, though Andy wasn’t happy when I took “his” new claim away!

Post 699: Morning is dawning.

If my cats didn’t keep the blinds on my computer desk window in total disarray, I might never see the morning, or the day and night. I spend too much time here, I know, and those days – like yesterday – that I limit my time on the computer seem to just bog me down with too many new blog posts, YouTube videos, and miscellaneous e-mails to sort through and try to view.

"Oh! The sun is up!"

“Oh! The sun is up!”

I hope people read my posts, yet I feel over-burdened with theirs when they add more than one a day. Several post one photo or illustration per posting several times a day. To view, review, “like” (if I do!), close, then delete a post I’ve seen is five keystrokes. If someone posts 15 individual photos or poems (and some do!) a day, that’s 75 keystrokes, where five keystrokes would do if they posted everything in one post.

The impact of the multiple postings is to minimize the amount of time I have available to enjoy the poster’s work and a severe reduction in the amount of time I have available to update my post once a day.

I confess, there are days I am over-whelmed to the point I go through the 300 or so e-mail notifications waiting for me and delete as many as I possibly can, starting with those that are from multiple posters.

I don’t feel good about it, but it seems to be the only way to get through the day without spending the whole day in front of a computer screen, missing little things. Like the sun coming up.

Post 698: Happy 148th Birthday, Nebraska! (You don’t look a day over 100!)

I’m a native-born Cornhusker. So are Andy and Dougy. Naturally, on this 148th birthday of our favorite state, we have to whoop it up a little and be thankful no bison herds numbering in the 10s of millions trample through our backyard. Of course, all of that organic, um, “poop” (to use the technical term) would make a great soil amendment for our garden!

The Nebraska Sandhills area is my favorite part of Nebraska, though the Pine Ridge area is pretty fascinating, too!
