Post 715: today I dumped breakfast on the floor…

The pancakes I made with the ripe bananas, well, I decided to eat them in the front room. Too many things in my hands… Yep! Pancakes, butter, syrup all over the little desk by my computer and the box the boys loved. Past tense.

I tossed the dumped pancakes, box, and cleaning stuff in a new trash bag and consoled myself : Mess that it was, at least it wasn’t pasta in a sloppy marinara sauce I dumped!

=(^+^)=

In other “news”, Andy proved to be a cagey adversary this morning. He anticipated my next three moves, avoiding the inevitable dose of kitty blood pressure medicine.

Yep, south end of a cat running north! I saw lots of this view today while trying to lure Andy for his medicine dose.

When Andy plays his hard to catch game, the most workable strategy is to fix something for me to eat (“the banana pancakes”). His curiosity aroused, he comes by, letting down his guard to let me scratch his ears and rub his face. This is when I grab him, right?

Yes and no. I decided a long time ago that scruffing him isn’t a good idea, that I have to catch him without hurting him in any way. That means maneuvering him into a position where I can hold him down with one hand and scoop him up with the other. That requires diverting his attention from my plan to catch him, which he seems to work out three steps ahead of me.

Today, I used a stick of butter. Yep! Mean old me held it where Andy could sniff it from afar but was blocked from escape on all but one side. He never saw what happened!

"When do I get the butter?!" Andy, moments before I gave him his medicine. Good kitty!

It’s difficult holding an unhappy cat and taking his photo at the same time. This was the best I could do under the circumstances, yet it somehow captures the pathos of the moment…!

Post 714: Dougy spots a spider…

Dougy sat down to clean up after breakfast. Then he spotted the spider!

He lost track of the spider when it crawled behind the box.
Too bad. I was rooting for a quick and brutal end to Ms. Spider, “Death by Savage Teeth from Hell and Random Pattycakes”.

Post 713: breakfast is a tiring meal…

Both boys ate breakfast. Andy’s had his medicine and currently is in hiding. Dougy thought it’d be fun to play “wand toy” for a while, but pooped out before he got started…!

711: Andy did it…

Andy is a quiet, sweet little cat, but he has his ornery side, too.

With that sweet face, how can Andy ever be a naughty kitty?

With that sweet face, how can Andy ever be a naughty kitty?

But he is…!

When I first put this poster of Louie as Captain Me-Ow on the wall, the first thing Andy did as soon as I stepped back to see how it looked was tug on the bottom strip of the frame.

Yep, though the photo was centered in the frame and held in place by static electricity, Andy’s curiosity about the frame broke the bond.  The photo has been cock-eyed in the frame ever since!

To love a cat is to accept a bit of chaos in one's life! Things one learns from one's cats...!

“But why didn’t you try to straighten it out?”

Ha! Only someone who doesn’t have a cat would ask that question! 🙁 <3

Post 710: the grocery inspector…

Grocery day always is exciting for the boys. I open the door, hands straining under the weight of several shopping bags, and there they are: Andy and Dougy, the grocery inspectors!

Of course, Andy didn’t stay to be photographed today because he thought I was getting ready to catch him to give him medicine when I set down the last of the bags…! (The thought occurred! 🙂 )

That left the inspection up to Dougy and Dougy alone.

High above the scene, Dougy surveys the bags awaiting inspection...!

“Let the inspection begin! One potato…, two potatoes…, three potatoes….”

That was pretty exhausting for both Doug and Dougy, so Doug retired to the computer – natch! – with a tub of yummy Greek yoghurt (peach-flavored) made from milk of contented Colorado cows. He had a visitor. This wasn’t on the inspection tour…was it?!

"This is MY yoghurt, Dougy! MINE! MINE! MINE!" The cat brothers are the only selfish ones in this household! Hee! Hee!

Post 709: Ali the special kitty…

Ali the black kitty just turned five years old a few days ago. It wasn’t a sure thing she’d make it to that birthday because she’s had serious health issues this past year, coming close to death too many times. Now, her veterinarian says she can’t survive much longer, and I know Ruth and Tim’s hearts are breaking.

Ali and her human, Ruth. Ruth blogs as sunsetdragon.

Ali’s more than just a family pet. Ruth’s husband Tim has serious health issues, and Ali is his best buddy. When Ali does well, he does well or better. She snuggles with him, comforts him, helps him deal with the vicissitudes of dementia and his other health issues. He could be her kitten, for all the love and care she gives Tim. They are inseparable.

The beautiful Ali, doing much better now, thank you!

Ali.

Now, this beautiful creature, this loving and sweet kitty is near her end. Prayers for Tim and Ruth while they prepare for the sad day they have to see their little companion pass into memory.

UPDATE ON ALI

Per Ruth (sunsetdragon): “I wanted to tell you that we got a call from our vet and she has new medication that we can afford that she is certain will help Ali. She has been on the phone with her mentor who is a vet back in Chicago, and Ali meets the criteria of felines who this medication will help.
We have hope.”

Good news! Let’s hope and pray this helps Ali to come through this medical crisis!

Post 708: Dougy poses nicely…

Dougy’s  had little blog exposure, so today you get a Dougy extravaganza, a photo shoot taken to show you Andy didn’t tear all his fur off!

To help him feel better about having his photo taken  — no one in my family likes to be photographed, even the critters… — I let him select the setting.

Yes, you can bet Dougy wanted to be on his ottoman for the photo shoot!!

"Say kitty litter and mouse cheese!" Dougy smiles for the camera.

He seems agitated...! Why?

Oh! I foget about that dang camera strap! Once I hold it back, Dougy settles down a bit. Very little! "Stop moving your head, Douglas!"

Post 707: Kitty on the hunt!

I don’t know what Andy had for breakfast, but he is really wound up this morning. Better watch out, Dougy! Andy’s got you in his headlights!

On the hunt!

Post 706: Andy’s meditation… (Dedicated to FunTom the Cat)

I caught Andy in a very contemplative mood today.

"WHAT!?"

“WHAT!?”

[...maus...haus...heraus...]

I’m not sure what’s on his mind, but he definitely doesn’t want interruptions!

=(^+^)=

FunTom doesn’t like taking his medication, either.
