Post 1012: “Oh! I have a webcam that I can use to take photos!”

It isn’t a fix so much as another way to do the same thing. Yes, I can’t use an camera’s memory gizmo to put photos on my computer just now. But…! But I can use my webcam! It puts photos and videos in strange places, but I usually find them eventually, just as I did today.

I am reasonably smart, yet it took me several days to fugure out my Logitech webcam is a reasonable substitute for my camera till I get the computer drive F. fixed....! Hmmm.

For example, today Dougy was watching birds (pine siskins) outside the back window….

Intensely interesting stuff, Dougy thinks. Snack-sized!

He got a bit tired following all the action. You would, too!

In some respects, the webcam takes better photos than the camera. Bad light, for example, is less of an issue with the webcam. Happy days! I’m glad I remembered the webcam.

Post 1004: Andy and Dougy can ignore me now…

That first day back, the kitty boys couldn’t spend enough time with me. “Clingy” barely covers it! And the first night they didn’t let me get any sleep at all.

Dougy was especially  annoying, walking on me, kneading me head to foot, sticking his face and tail in my face, and generally making sure I was there again to give good skritchings.

Andy was less aggressive, though he slept on a night stand next to the bed, well within skritching distance.

Now, a bit over a week later, the boys still want to be with me at night, but Dougy’s settled down. He comes around regularly for a little attention. He just  doesn’t do it all night long. Whew!

And Andy settles for just sleeping on the night stand. If my hand gets within skritiching distance, he lets me skritch his chin and head. He makes few demands for attention, however.

=(^+^)=

It is interesting that the same port that was working so irratically in Scottsbluff is working fine in Alliance. I think the nurses at the Box Butte General Hospital dialysis unit must work smarter instead of harder. Or maybe the difference is they are handling fewer patients at a time so can give better service. Whatever it is, I am very impressed with this local dialysis unit! I had my third treatment there yesterday and it went without a hitch again.

I still haven’t worked out the problem with my PC, so, sorry but no new kitty pictures and videos are possible just yet.

Post 738: Computer issues, mayhem, and cats run amok…!

When I left my computer last night, it was updating 136 items, so “[d]o not turn off your computer”. I went to bed, and left the machine to do its tedious updates. I’d had enough of this computer stuff for the day, what with several attempts — all failures — to do a back up of my files.

I tried several different suggestions you made, in fact, and the last one of copying files manually looks like a winner…if I use a memory stick since the files (videos, photos) really eat up the memory.

What popped up on my screen when I turned my PC on this morning.

What popped up on my screen when I turned my PC on this morning.

Ugh! Not only were there over 100 updates, amazing in itself considering I’d run updates several times this past week when the computer “told” me they were there to do.

Now it “told” me it failed to update, so it was undoing whatever it tried to do. That is, I couldn’t use the computer for anything useful until it finished! (After several minutes, I was so tempted to turn it off that I knew it was best I leave the area, which I did.)

😐

My late mother was a school teacher. She often commented on the relationship between naughtiness in children and weather changes. We had a weather change — lots of rain yesterday — and the cat brothers were wound up.

How wound up? For one thing, one of the window screens was pulled down, evidence of a cat climbing the screen to escape his brother who was chasing him.

Mayhem! Most likely Andy pulled it down since he's my screen climber.

Mayhem! Most likely Andy pulled it down since he’s my screen climber.

Computer down.  Window screen down. What else was in store for me?

:\

I pulled out the laptop, turned it on, and found I still fight the new OS to get simple tasks done. On the other hand, after failing to make much progress on the laptop, I looked back to see the PC was ready to be used.

I turned the laptop off for another day when I’m in a better, more open-minded mood for change, and climbed back on the old horse I knew would probably fail me but in more familiar ways.

LOL!

🙂

Once I came across a cynical saying attributed to a Nantucket sea captain:

Most people don’t care about your problems,

and the rest are damn glad of them.

🙁

When I get in a funk like this morning’s, I like to remind myself of that saying. Not that I necessarily believe it is true, but that most people prefer positive people. Try to stay positive even on the blackest days, I remind myself, and…! Heck if I know. But it does seem to help lighten the mood, though my social life remains pretty much the same. 🙂

In the spirit of positivity, I add this photo of Dougy checking out the effects of the rain yesterday day and this morning.

Dougy knows he slip[ped outdoors without permission, but he had to see what happened after the rain!

After suffering through the woes of Douglas (the human one), the least I can do is give you a cute kitty photo to end your misery!

Thank you for sticking with me while I suffer the vicissitudes of computers. I respect you too much to get into the latest issue: a printer that refuses to communicate with my PC and vice versa.

Post 734: The g-mail miracle happened!

Miracle of miracles! I stumbled onto g-mail after somehow finally coming up with a credible user name/password combination Google Chrome liked! What a relief!

Dougy checking out the scenery...

Dougy checking out the scenery…

Best of all, re-finding g-mail means I have an easier path to the edit function for this blog! I managed to find a long path here, but the easy one, well, who wouldn’t prefer the easy way over the tedious one!?

I think I might win this war yet!

Post 732: Andy, Dougy, and Doug are back…sort of…

What a nightmare! Both my PC and new laptop are back from repair, and virtually nothing works the way it used to.

G-mail is down. All Microsoft Office applications are down. Photoshop is AWOL. Ugh! How I got onto WordPress is a mystery. I typed what was in the search box “in case”. If I can get to the editable section of the blog, I can limp along with something, however rudimentary.

If you’ve stayed on during me disappearance from the Internet, bless you! I’;ll try top reward you with some happy cat stuff to make up for thew recent blackout. If nothing else, the boys and I had lots of play time this past week, and they’ve enjoyed having the extra attention.

But, hey! Here are some cat photos to give you something other than a tale of woe for today’s post:

It's been nice enough to open the back door. The boys liked that!

Of course, if Dougy wants to sit on the little red chair, so will Andy!

Post 729: Internet and/or computer issues…

I’m dealing with some major Internet and/or computer issues just now. I’m stuck in Safe Mode, so have some limited access to features.

I’m not sure, however, if I will be able to continue posting daily for a while. I’m beginning to think I will have to take my computer to a repair shop for a major fix.

Working with photo files is difficult and very limited as to what I can do.

As much as I hate to pause my blogging, I don’t seem to have a choice. I may post new ones if it is possible, but it looks less and less likely for the time being. Likewise, responding to comments may be less likely till I resolve my Internet and/or computer issues.

Post 699: Morning is dawning.

If my cats didn’t keep the blinds on my computer desk window in total disarray, I might never see the morning, or the day and night. I spend too much time here, I know, and those days – like yesterday – that I limit my time on the computer seem to just bog me down with too many new blog posts, YouTube videos, and miscellaneous e-mails to sort through and try to view.

"Oh! The sun is up!"

“Oh! The sun is up!”

I hope people read my posts, yet I feel over-burdened with theirs when they add more than one a day. Several post one photo or illustration per posting several times a day. To view, review, “like” (if I do!), close, then delete a post I’ve seen is five keystrokes. If someone posts 15 individual photos or poems (and some do!) a day, that’s 75 keystrokes, where five keystrokes would do if they posted everything in one post.

The impact of the multiple postings is to minimize the amount of time I have available to enjoy the poster’s work and a severe reduction in the amount of time I have available to update my post once a day.

I confess, there are days I am over-whelmed to the point I go through the 300 or so e-mail notifications waiting for me and delete as many as I possibly can, starting with those that are from multiple posters.

I don’t feel good about it, but it seems to be the only way to get through the day without spending the whole day in front of a computer screen, missing little things. Like the sun coming up.
