Post 1510: In which we prepare for our Dutch friend!

Dougy’s blocking the bathroom door and Andy’s on the table – bad kitty! The kitties wonder what’s up.

The kitty boys take turns coming in to check up on what I’m doing, then leave to their guard positions.

“Why, I’m doing lots of washing and cleaning in preparation for our friend Marianne’s visit from The Netherlands by way of Maine, kitty boys. She’ll arrive in Nebraska on Wednesday. I think you’ll like her!” I explain.

“Fine!” Andy tells me in Cattinese, “But don’t forget it is ‘feed the kitties wet food time’. NOW!”

Yes, kitty. I’ll fix your meal soon. First, I’ll start the next to last load in the dryer, and the last load in the washer. Your meal’s almost waiting for you!

Post 1509: plucking mats…

Andy was busy grooming today when I noticed something I’d not seen before…

…he was plucking mats off his legs. I’ve tried to do this for him, and he resists. Can’t wait till next week when the kitty boys finally have another grooming appointment. Those mats are tedious for them and for me, especially since they don’t co-operate with me and let me trim them out!

Post 1508: co-operation…

No post yesterday because I ran out of steam. Today, it was the kitty boys’ turn to be poops! Andy’s off somewhere, and Dougy ran off as soon as he saw he was being photographed.

What to do? Well, a replay of kitties relaxing!

Post 1507: Andy stops by…

Little ears perk up when I’m in the kitchen. When Andy heard me in the kitchen, always a cue to “mosey over”, he made a slow walk to see what I was up to.

“Food! I bet it’s for kitty boys – or me, sweet little Andy!” he projected through his usual body language.

Nope! I’m washing dishes, kitty. Never mind. While you’re here, I’ll “scritch” your nose. And I did.

Post 1506: thanks from Barbarella…

Barbarella (The Mad Cat Lady) noted how much it meant to her that so many of us offered our condolences on the passing of her kitty boy, Spider.

Dealing with grief never is simple. Barbarella describes how she is working through her grief, something each of us will have to do in time. We can learn from her.

Post 1505: faster than a speeding camera shutter…

What’s up, Dougy?

Oh! Oh! Dougy’s in the mood for a kitty chase! Watch out Andy, Dougy’s on the prowl!

IMG_20170906_042846

Such a look! Andy wasn’t in there, eh? (I will be so glad when the kitty boys get their day at the groomer’s – see all that shed hair on the rug?)

IMG_20170906_042849

Ah ha! There the little rascal is! Dougy spots Andy and the chase is on!

Post 1504: Andy minds his business; Dougy does not!

Andy minds his own business. The recliner footrest is free and Dougy isn’t around.

IMG_20170904_074621

Kind of nice!

IMG_20170904_074841

Uh oh…Dougy just showed up!

IMG_20170904_074851

Dougy chases Andy into the guest bedroom…because! (No reason Andy or I can fathom. Isn’t there plenty of space between the ottoman and recliner?)

Dougy’s back and he’s watching for Andy. No more of this intruding on “Dougy space” today!

Just in case, Dougy takes his “Andy watch” over to the recliner.

Dun dun dunhhh!

Post 1503: We wake up a bit ruffled…

You think Dougy wakes up looking beautiful? Ha! Ha! He looks pretty ruffled till I brush him out, especially now that his hair is really long. He tries to look pretty, but he always has a bad hair day without my assistance.

Before I brush him, he still enjoys a bit of “scritching”, of course, since he doesn’t know how ruffled he looks. (If I pointed the camera my way at this time of day, even later, you’d agree I can use a personal groomer, too!)

Post 1502: Spider the tabbycat, RIP

Spider was a kitty that lived with The Mad Cat Lady for 18 years. Spider’s sibling, also 18 years old, survives.

Though you probably come here for light humor, a chuckle, we know our animal companions live too short lives, something we will inevitably face at some point in our lives.

My blogo-friend, The Mad Cat Lady, came to that point yesterday, September 2, when her beloved Spider died in her arms. This post is dedicated to her and her beloved Spider. I send her hugs and tears for her Spider. Spider died from a mouth cancer.

She writes:

Spider left this world very peacefully at around 13:20 hrs today, 2nd September 2017, in the comfort of our own home. I held him in my arms until his last breath and for a few minutes afterwards, before my vet Marga took him away to be cremated, and I will receive the urn with his ashes in about a week to 10 days’ time.

I have been around friends all afternoon which really helped take my mind off things, but now, being at home, it is really hard because everything reminds me of him. The sheet that he died on even smells of him still, but after spending 5 minutes sniffing it and crying into it, I told myself that I need to move on and I put it in the washing machine. I have never been one for living in the past, and even though Spider’s passing is going to hurt for a long time to come, I have to be strong and look after his twin brother Lugosi (also 18 years old) and his half sister Ruby, and I also need to look after myself – something which I have not been doing for that last few weeks since Spider’s cancer diagnosis.

I told Spider before he left this world, that time works differently “up there” and that for me it will be many years before we meet again, but for him it will just be like an hour and then I will be right there again with him in no time. And Lugosi too.

I just stopped crying for about 10 minutes and now it’s starting again. But most of you will know what losing a pet is like, so I know you will understand. Rest in peace, Spider, my beautiful boy.

If you have a moment, please leave Barbarella (The Mad Cat Lady) a note of condolence. She needs a world-wide hug just now. Thank you.

Post 1501: Caturday and the cats will play!

Andy’s minding his business because he is a nice boy.

IMG_20170902_024403

Something is afoot – a kitty foot! Andy suspects his brother is up to mayhem because that’s Dougy for you!

Good call, Andy! Andy took a quick exit before Dougy came looking for him.

IMG_20170902_020058

“Where’s that kitty boy when I want to chase him?” Dougy thinks as he checks under the recliner to see if his brother is there. Nope!

A bit later, he finds Andy in the kitchen and the chase is on!
