Post 2166: Louie was bad…

louie in trouble

I have no idea why I was cussing Louie out that day. Maybe he was chewing on the flowers. I thought I’d lost this photo, but it popped up on Facebook Wednesday. It is one of my favorite shots of Louie the ginger cat. He was a great kitty, but died of lymphoma on August 1, 2011. As you can see, he was counting on plausible deniability to get out of trouble for whatever it was!

Andy found his happy place some months ago…

…and if I’d only leave him alone, he could have a long snooze~! He took a four and a half hour nap after this series of photos was taken. The washing machine is a perfect kitty happy place, according to Andy, though I do make sure no kitty’s in it before I wash clothes.

Louie the ginger cat used to hop into the dryer for his snooze. It was a different combo washer-dryer. He climbed up there his last night. That was where I found his body the next morning.

Post 2119: sleeping cat styles…

My late ginger kitty Louie had a strange sleeping style…

…where his tail curled this way and he oftentimes pressed against a piece of furniture to nap.

Post 2019: over-worked…

You know I’ve over-worked the kitty boys when I have to dig into the archives for something “new”. If you’ve been around long enough, you know this kitty is Louie the ginger cat as his alter ego, Captain Me-Ow. Louie was a great kitty, and I miss him still. Yet, his death lead to me getting Andy and Dougy….

Before the kitty boys discovered the recliner back as a perfect place to roost and sleep, Louie the ginger cat made use of it.

Louie loved to take cat walks…most times! He was a rescue kitty and was used to being inside and out. Unlike Andy and Dougy, I could trust him to take care of himself . I did start walking with him, however, after I did it once and discovered he wandered farther from home than I realized: He needed a little supervision!

I had a lot to learn about cats when I first got Louie. For example, how to recognize a neutered male from a female cat…! LOL! Till I took Louie to the veterinarian’s to be spayed, I thought he was a female cat, so named him “Lucy”, after Lucille Ball, another red-haired comedian. (Louie was a comedian cat!) When the technician told me Louie was a neutered male, I was surprised, of course, but relieved I didn’t have to spend any money that day. But I had to come up with a name for “Lucy” more appropriate a male kitty boy. Yep! So I named him after another Kool Kat, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong.

Post 1398: cat tails…

DSCN0644

I have to start somewhere, and this happens to be my favorite photo of the impressive tail of the late Louie the ginger cat.

Anyone with cats knows their tails are expressive. Louie the ginger cat had a proud, confident tail. This video, which many of you have seen before, shows the many tails of Louie and has a moral since I made the video for the young children of a friend.

Andy, too, has a fine tail!

Not to forget Dougy’s fine tail!

That brings us to the end of this tale. Have a fine Sunday!

Post 1149: a retro Caturday…

My cat adventure started off with the fated kitten, Freckles. Louie the ginger cat was meant to be her companion, but she died after surgery, barely six months old. Louie was fated, too. I had him only 22 months before he died of lymphoma, but he was a great introduction to cats.

Louie was a big cat. Sometimes he'd jump up on your lap without warning.

Post 991: “A Cat’s Tail…”

I thought this video was deleted or missing from my YouTube playlist or I would have posted it again with the message from Smilla and Luke, children of my friend Nicole. They were the inspiration for the video, which features the late Louie the ginger cat.

As you now know, this is a children’s story, but there is a serious message for all people: “Be a good kitty!”

I have no doubt that Luke and Smilla are well-behaved and respectful children after watching this video…. LOL!

Post 790: Art thou Dougy…?

Take a bad photo and turn it into something else.

One of my favorite photos of Louie my late ginger cat started out as a very bad photo taken with a camera with a nearly dead battery that failed to flash.  A New Zealand friend added the super hero cape, and there we go! You’ve seen it before, but here it is again:New Louies Cape_Complete

Today, when taking a photo of Dougy, the flash reflected off the hard surface of a binder in the foregound, wiping out pretty much everything. Here’s that photo:001

Yet, there was something about the photo I liked. With a little imagination, tons of Photoshop, and the crop tool, this image came about:kitty art
I kind of like it. It’s Dougy art!

Post 66X: I’m not superstitious, but maybe you are!

Today’s post hits more than 665 but less than 667. I am not superstitious, but I won’t number it in case you are!

Likewise, since both my cats are kind of black — I think of them as black — I won’t post any photos of them today, though I assure you they walk in front of me day in and day out. I have yet to have bad luck.

Of course, I still haven’t won the Powerball. Hmmm. Damn black cats!

(That’s the boys’ veterinarian in red, incidentally, and the technician holding Louie is the one who shaved a spot on Andy’s tail so she could get his blood pressure. We all go back a long time!)

Louie adored me, I think, but that doesn';t mean he minded very well. Fortunately, he was basically a pretty good boy!

Louie was a semi-outdoor cat. He was five years old when I got him (his veterinarian estimated), and his previous people apparently let him wander. That's how he ended up trapped by the animal control officer, abandoned, and "there" when I was looking for a cat.

Post 640: The late Louie the ginger cat loved snow.

I’ve mentioned Louie the ginger cat before. He was a nearly 24 pound (10.8 kilos) ginger tabby cat, a real man’s kitty. You could wrestle him like he was a dog!

Louie came to me by way of the local animal shelter, where he did some time as a stray cat waiting for someone to claim him. But no one did, amazingly, and when I went to the shelter to pick another cat (the short-lived Freckles), Louie pranced and preened in a cage nearby, daring me not to fall in love with him. And I did!

louie ponders an outside life

As a former stray, he also loved his creature comforts, but he also loved the snow. If Andy barely goes as far as the door and Dougy carefully avoids getting snow on his feet if he can, Louie got right with it, sniffing, walking in it, catching up on the local cat messages other cats left for him to find.

Louie was a good ol’ cat!  I was devastated when he died August 1, 2011 of lymphoma. Until his last day, he didn’t even act sick, then the only sign was he wouldn’t eat his supper meal.
