Andy’s tummy tells him it’s time for kitty food. Andy tells his tummy it’s still time to snooze….!

Andy’s tummy seems to be winning the argument! Andy yawns and prepares to wake up.

“Well, maybe my tummy can wait a little longer!”

Winter decided to hang on just a little bit longer here in the center of the country. The photos are looking out my back door.

This is how it looked yesterday morning. By midday, most of the snow had melted.
The day started out blah. By afternoon, though, things picked up significantly!

“What’s up, Andy?!”

“Can you believe it?”

The boys can’t believe their eyes…!

Andy takes off but Dougy sticks around…. Too much for Andy!
Here’s a short vided of what the boys saw and what Dougy found so fascinating:

Today is a rainy day. I went for groceries, put away the perishables, and left the rest in their sacks on the floor. No gumption at all today! None. Nada.
Similarly, the boys wanted to play with cat toys, but gave up after a short time. Today is a day to laze, take a nap, put off till tomorrow anything one can. And we are!

How many things can you see in this photo that I could take care of if I had the gumption? Won’t happen today, I guarantee!
The most Andy can manage is to gaze out the dining room window…at nothing, just rain. No idea where Dougy is or what he’s up to.
Blah-blah-blahdy-blah. Such a blah day the kitties say. I agree. I should get on the stick and put away groceries if nothing else. That dining room table is a disaster. I see tops of things could stand a dusting…. But not today!
Sox came home to a new companion kitty (Molly) and new circumstances.
According to my sister, “The cats are co-existing, but at a distance. Molly is definitely the dominant one, which surprises me. Sox has actually tried to be friendly to her, but she wants nothing to do with him. He is afraid of her. She is not happy with me either, and avoids me if Sox is in the room. I put Sox in ‘his’ room at night, and Molly is most happy to sleep with me and have me all to herself. Neither cat will touch the other’s food or water. Hopefully, they will eventually tolerate each other enough to be companions when I’m not home.”

Sox had a rough 10 months as a lost cat…! Poor kitty! He’s lucky my sister never gave up finding him.
My sister wrote, “Here [is a picture] of Sox the day I found him at the animal shelter. His fur looked rough, even after brushing it, but he still is a pretty boy…discolored fur, neglected grooming, and all.”
Poor kitty! He definitely looks like a kitty that was lost 10 months in this shelter photo! My sister made an appointment to get Sox bathed and groomed this week, so he’ll soon look more like he does in this earlier photo of him at their old house.
I asked her to send me an “after” photo, which I know she will since she is proud of her pretty kitties!

For anyone with pets of any sort, it’s hard to imagine what my sister (not to mention Sox!) went through for those 10 months. We are just happy her kitty boy is home again and that he’s safe again from harm.
According to my sister, “Sox already got on the kitchen counter, the table and into a wastepaper basket. No change there.”
Home again!
What about his new kitty sister Molly? My sister sent a current photo of her, too:

Molly is the queen of the house. How long will it be before she and Sox are best buddies?

UPDATE ON SOX AND MOLLY/ May 19, 2015
My sister writes: “Thanks for telling Sox’s story in your blog…although the shelter named him ‘Bobert.’ Sox loves playing with his toilet paper toy on the hardwood floors, and has enjoyed playing with all his other little toys too. He wants out all the time, so we need to be careful every time someone comes in or out of the house. Now he gets into Molly’s food, since she has basically a wet food diet. Both cats are very possessive of me, so we have a long way to go for peace in this house. [My grandson] spent the day here yesterday, so neither cat was happy.”
I located Andy’s new den by accident. He looked so contented, I couldn’t bring myself to challenge why he chose this particular spot….

Andy is content in the dark safety of his new den.
Of course, I might have to upset the little darling sooner than later because his den has other uses!

Yes, that’s the wastepaper basket in the kitchen, a favorite one for the kitties to knock over.
Andy just walked over to sit by me at the computer, so I’ll upright his “den” for now. I expect it will end up on its side again, soon, so the kitties — Andy, at least — and I have a new game to play!
We have an expression in my family: Ready for Freddy. No profound meaning, just that the speaker is ready to get on the road or eager to start doing something.
Today, the kitty boys were ready for Freddy to play with their cat toys, and we had a solid hour of kitty fun before they wandered off to take cat naps — which I hope are for the rest of the day!

Andy is ready for Freddy!
Odd how that expression popped up this morning. I can’t remember the last time anyone in the family said it. It just fits the excitement Andy and Dougy showed to get going with their Neko toy play time!
Dougy always is up for play, but Andy went through a period before his heart murmur and high blood pressure were discovered where he was listless and not at all kittenish or playful. Seeing him tear through the living room to capture the toy before Dougy does is proof the medicine does its job!
When both play, the boys take turns wearing themselves out, then resting while the other brother takes over the play. That’s how our play session managed to last the hour! With just one cat playing, a play session might last 10 minutes before the kitty poops out.
You may not believe it, but Andy and Dougy sometimes have spats where one or the other ends up whimpering and running away with his tail between his legs! With both playing, the Neko toy takes all the tooth and claw action, and we all like that best of all!
Yes, today is like every other day. Andy doesn’t want to take his medicine, so he takes evasive action. Or so he thinks!

A little panic. Andy realizes Doug (the human one) sees him, and he, Andy, still hasn’t had his medicine yet today.

“Make a plan, Andy! Make a plan!”
Andy tries to make the best choice to avoid capture.

A tactical error on Andy’s part…!
It’s so cute when cats in full view think they are hiding if they can’t see you! But the joke’s on you, dear Andy! Open wide!
There was a knock on the door yesterday afternoon. I was on my computer, responding to comments left on my blog when it came. I wasn’t expecting anyone, so was very curious about who might be there.
When I opened the door, it was my neighbor from across the lane, holding something in his hand. He explained he and his wife were headed for Minnesota for the rest of the month, that the parking space they use would be available to my neighbor in the other end of this duplex. He just wanted me to know she’d been told she could park there.
Then he handed me what was in his hand — strawberry shortcake. It was for being a good neighbor, which I protested was being charitable…!

Not only was it HUGE, it was as delicious as it looks!
You can be sure there were little eyes watching all of this, and two of them perched on the back of the recliner, behind my computer chair.

Andy didn’t miss a thing.
Further, he was certain this strawberry shortcake surely was kitty food!
Any of you with cats know eating food is fascination of a high order to cats, and they expect their fair share of whatever you might have on your plate.

A dark day in kittydom: The human ate all of the food! How rude!
Today was a Katharine Hepburn day on TCM channel, and several of these movies were new to me.
I decided to do a marathon Katharine Hepburn watch but failed to let the kitties know I planned to do it in my bedroom, where I can lie down and watch a larger television than the one in the front room. Also, if I watch in the front room, the boys bug me to bring out the kitty toys, definitely a distraction! (If fun — don’t let me tell you otherwise.)

I started out on the front room television.
Dougy hinted broadly he wanted to play…

Other naiughtiness meant to attract my attention: caught in the act of knocking over the wastepaper basket.
Once in bed, I thought I was safe from kitty intervention. But no! Dougy came in, hopped onto the bed, walked up and down my body, and made biscuits — painfully! — on my side. I pet him until he hopped off the bed. A few minutes later, he repeated this performance. I wasn’t getting his hint: Kitties rank over legendary Hollywood goddesses! Oh dear!
I sat on the edge of my bed, and Andy came over to put his forepaws on my knee. My knee is permanently scabbed over because Andy does this to get my attention. It works, too, because his claws always are out just enough to snag my skin.
OK! OK! I get the hint, kitties! I turned off the television and we played kitty games. Now, it’s time for a nap. A cat nap.
