Post 1216: update on Dougy’s eye…

We’re halfway through Dougy’s eye treatments for conjunctivitis. He hates it, of course, and I have to use the kitty burrito technique (wrapping him in a towel) to get the job done. I’m glad I don’t have to do this pretty much forever like I do with Andy and his high blood pressure issue! Dougy may be a little cat, but he can put up a fight, as my leg verifies!

=(^+^)=

Dougy wasn’t happy that I gave him eye drops first thing this morning.112116-dougy-1

On the other hand, it seems to be helping with the conjunctivitis (before and after).

Andy got his medicine right off this morning, too, but he’s been hiding in the shadows from me since!112116-andy

The kitty burrito method wasn’t used at first, as my leg wounds show! (Never medicate a cat while wearing shorts! LOL!)112116-dougs-wounds

Today is another big day for the boys and me, I fear. The guy working on the fire alarm is showing up first thing this morning and today is the boys’ day at the groomer. Catching them to put them in the carrier should be interesting. Once you’ve caught them for the day, they are (reasonably) a bit more wary than usual. The next photos you see of them will be of neatly trimmed kitties!

Post 1215: fire alarms, veterinarians, and lots of stress…

Caturday turned out to be an adventure, to clean it up for general audiences! The fire alarms (85 dB) in my apartment started going off after I made an omelette for breakfast. It took most of the day to end this ordeal of alarms going off – manually stopping the alarms – alarms going off again in ten minutes.

It’s hard to say which of us was more stressed, the kitty boys or me. They, however, didn’t get to say really blasphemous and naughty words to try to make the stress go away! Nope. They were perfect gentlecats! (So I gave them some kitty treats ~ twice.)

See how Dougy’s left eye is swollen? Conjunctivitis.111916-dougys-sick-eye

As mentioned this week, Andy and Dougy have been fighting over the recliner. It was beginning to concern me because it seemed Dougy was the main instigator. Then I noticed his left eye…. I tried to get him in to see his veterinarian Friday afternoon, but he was gone. I eventually got a call from one of the other veterinarians (the new guy), and we decided Dougy should come in anytime Saturday (Caturday, rather) if the eye looked bad still. It did, and I called to let the clinic know Dougy was coming in for an examination.

The new veterinarian impressed me with his thoroughness, his compassion, and his interest in Dougy and his problem. I thought the new veterinarian was easily as good as the boys’ regular veterinarian, something that encourages me in case I have no alternative but to use another one instead of my preferred one. Yes, the new guy is just fine! (Dougy was good with him as well.)

I’ve put these in Dougy’s eyes when he had problems years ago.111,916-dougys-eyedrops-say

So Dougy has an eye drop prescription that I give him twice a day for five days. Lucky kitty! (Lucky me! Doctoring two kitties!)

So, when I came back from the veterinarian’s, the alarm was blasting off. Poor Andy! No knowing how long he endured that racket! I picked him up and cuddled and talked calmly to him. Later, I gave him that second helping of treats I mentioned earlier. He earned it!

I called the landlord and calmly (um… “tersely and with menace”) explained the toll the alarms were putting on the kitties and me, how my physical limitations made the process of poking them with the broom handle physically stressful, how I was thinking of moving into a motel with the kitties till the problem was fixed (and charging it to the landlord….!), etc., etc., etc. I plastered it on thick and specifically! There was no way I intended to stay in that apartment all weekend until the maintenance person on duty during the week came to work Monday.

Andy “hid” from the racket here and on the bath mat by the shower. Poor kitty!111916-andy-in-shadows

So, a new maintenance person was sent over. I think he figured the problem out. One of the alarms was apparently defective. It triggered all of the other alarms to activate. Also, he discerned that the problem might also be dust on the units. He used an electric leaf blower to blow them clean! After this treatment and the removal of the one he suspected was defective, the alarms stayed off. It’s been nearly two hours since he left, with no reoccurrence of the alarms.

Oh, yes. Since the treatments began on Dougy’s left eye, there’s been peace in the house. It seems he was cranky because of his eye. At least I hope that’s so!

Post 1214: Would you believe the recliner’s still in contention?

Jeez! Andy and Dougy continue their recliner war today. Some of us (me) are getting a bit tired of the kitty boys’ “war”!

That’s Caturday this week. The kitty boys don’t share well when it’s a prize like the recliner!

The Deal

Hey! Benji and Ms. Zulu get doggy treats on account for every 10 “likes” they get for this blog, and their old shelter gets $1 for each “like”!

Post 1213: we continue from Andy’s cameo appearance…

Yesterday’s blog ended where Andy came in and Dougy is in shock! How dare that kitty!

=(^+^)=

Whew! After appearing suddenly in one big bound, Andy realizes his brother is on the recliner. So, athlete that he is, he maintains his forward motion and bounces over Dougy’s head, then off into the guest bedroom!111716-andy-shoots-across-the-recliner

Trouble averted, Dougy kind of returns to his wand toy games. Sort of. 111716-dougys-into-wand-toy-games

He’s tired of games now and has other thoughts. Yep! Back to his ottoman!111716-dougys-tired-of-it-all

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. A perfect end to this busy morning!111716-the-end-dougy-schlafft

I doubt you expected a surprise ending if you know Dougy!

Post 1212: Wand toy games in the morning are fun!

Dougy enjoys his wand toy games in the morning! Woo hoo! So what could go wrong?

=(^+^)=

Can I trick Dougy off the ottoman? Dougy suspects, correctly, the game is about to move.111716 the game moves.jpg

Yep! Smells like fun!111716 dougy sniffs wand toy on reecliner footrest.jpg

Onto the recliner. That’s where the action is.111716 dougy hops onto recliner.jpg

Excited? Oh yeah!111716 dougy gets excited.jpg

Woo hoo!111716 dougy is really into it.jpg

Catch it? Oh bliss in the morning! What could go wrong?111716 dougy pounces.jpg

Oh meow and mouse farts! Andrew!111716 here comes andy.jpg

There’s more to the story. Stay tuned! We’ll complete it tomorrow.

Post 1211: …pooped!

I guess it is no surprise. Cats spend practically the whole day dozing, snoozing, sleeping, resting, snuggling down, um, you know! They are pretty much meat loaves! Lovable meat loaves, granted. But meat loaves!

That said, Dougy insists on wand toy games after a nice meal of kitty food, which is now served at 12:30 AM instead of 1:30 AM since kitty stomachs give no recognition to Daylight Savings Time.

I guess that takes care of the rest of the day. LOL!

Post 1210: “What’s the matter, Dougy?”

Kitties get jealous, too. I try to spread the loving between Andy and Dougy in equal portions, especially when I see one or the other kitty gets in a snit.

Andy loves, loves, loves to have his chin scratched!111516-andy-gets-scritched-1

Oh, he sees me “scritching” Andy’s chin….!111516-dougy-answers

Not to worry. After I saw Dougy watching me “scritching” Andy’s chin, I “scritched” Dougy’s ears, his favorite.

Post 1209: Kittycats on Parade ~a video day

Once again, because there have been so many new subscribers lately, I am posting some of the videos featuring the two kitty boys, Andy and Dougy.

A big part of the fun of kitties (or any pet) is how they interact with us and our homes. Videos show that best!

=(^+^)=

Andy can be a pest…

When an English friend sent the kitty boys a package of treats and kitty goodies, the boys had a grand day! (Up to and including the box they came in, of course…!)

How do you know your kitty is naughty? Why, his horns are up!

The kitty boys approach snow differently. I suspect Dougy would love, love, love to spend hours romping in it, but they are indoor kitties for their safety.

I especially like this video of Andy…

The kitties aren’t little angels, let me tell you!

Thanks to Microsoft updates, I have yet to work out how I upload raw videos on my PC, then edit them, but, even with this roadblock, there are somewhere over 230 of my videos on YouTube, mostly cat videos of the two you know, but some of the late Louie the ginger cat.

Post 1208: …of course, Funday follows Caturday!

Andy has his way of having fun, and Dougy has his. He is insistent, in fact, that I stop everything to serve His Majesty’s whims. His kitty whine is killer, so I bow before he gets started!
